  • The Rhymney facility manufactures fibres and bulk textile wound dressing material used in the formulation of wound care dressings. The bulk material is supplied to the ConvaTec Deeside operations for conversion, packaging, and irradiation prior to release to market.

  • The facility directly contributes to the local economy through employee wages and benefits.

  • The Rhymney Health & Safety Committee members have all received training in IOSH working safely, risk assessment, and accident investigation. The team performs regular workplace inspections and assists in health and safety promotion across the site.
  • During 2003, a ConvaTec Rhymney EHS website was created, as well as introduction of a local EHS newsletter to support the initiative to raise EHS awareness across the site.

  • In June 1998, the Rhymney facility obtained ISO 14001 certification and ISO 9000:2000 in 2004 and ISO 13485 in 2005, demonstrating ConvaTec's EHS leadership and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Rhymney currently recycles paper, cardboard, metal, newspapers and magazines, aluminium cans, and some packaging waste. A landfill waste reduction programme to reduce other waste streams such as fluorescent light tubes, batteries, production, and packaging waste was introduced during 2003.
  • An initiative to reduce site utilities usage (e.g., water, gas, and electricity) is currently being implemented with an aim to achieving a five to ten percent reduction in usage by 2006.
