Community and Social Progress

Employee volunteering

placement for four to six students per year, generally of one or two
week's duration.
- We support local schools' careers initiatives, including mock interviews
and sessions to explain what career options are available.
- We also offer undergraduate work placements for a range of technical
areas.
- The Colon Cancer Concern charity organization visited site in September
2004 with their Promotional Awareness trailer. It was well received

Support to local emergency response organizations
- We have an Emergency Response Team (ERT) consisting of approximately
25 voluntary members. The ERT is comprised of trained employees across
all shifts who are responsible for managing any fire or spill emergency
until the emergency services arrive.
- Fire training is given to all permanent employees and provided by
an external fire training service.
- The facility has trained First Aid at Work. First Aiders play an
active role in supporting and treating employees with ill health.
- The site has a team of First Aiders who are bi-annually trained in
the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Environmental Performance

- The site has reduced the use of energy consumption by 8.7 percent
in 2004 from the 2001 baseline data. A 26 percent reduction in natural
gas usage has been achieved from baseline year 2001 to 2004 recordings.
- The site is striving to achieve ISO 14001 certification. A pre-assessment
was conducted early 2005.
- All employees participate in environmental awareness training.
- Computer-based Display Screen Equipment (DSE) training and awareness
has commenced for all users.
- The site participated in the National Adult Learning week by offering
a Learning@Workday drop-in center for all employees in May 2005.
- The significant environmental impacts onsite have been identified
as greenhouse gas emissions from energy use and employee transportation,
waste management, and the use of fossil fuels. These impacts are actively
managed by the site, by setting and working on objectives to minimize
these impacts. Our objectives include ten percent energy reduction,
ten percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, and 20 percent non-hazardous
