MEAD JOHNSON NUTRITIONALS
Facts and Figures

- The company started its business operation in Thailand under the supervision
of its parent company Bristol-Myers Squibb Thailand in 1972. On November
9th 2001, the company opened its new milk-powder plant in Thailand under
the name of Mead Johnson (Thailand) Limited. It is located on a 7.7
Rai (12,320 square meters) plot of land in Amata Nakorn Industrial Estate,
Chonburi.
- Operations include marketing, sales, distribution, finance, and manufacturing
high quality infants and children milk-powder products for both domestic
and international markets. The core products from MJT facility are Alacta-NF
Calcibank and Enfagrow.

Economic Development
- Contribution to local economy from wages and benefits is approximately
$10 million.
- Contribution to tax base is $500,000 annually.
Community and Social Progress

- The facility made donations of products, money, medicines, household
consumables, clothes, and stationary to the poor and elderly in Khon
Khen province in December 2003.
- The facility continues carrying out their PLC (Pollution Prevention
through Product Life Cycle analysis program), especially the package
reformation initiatives, which yields substantial achievements in minimization
of consumption of cardboard.
- The facility achieved GMP certification from the Ministry of Public
Health and Thai Industrial Standard Institute in February 2002 and October
2002, respectively. Halal certification occurred in April 2002.
- Donations of returned aluminum tops is made to the "King's Mother
Project." The aluminum is then used in the manufacturing of prosthetics
for children.
- Donations of Mead Johnson products are made to local orphanages.
- A comprehensive contractor control program has been developed, combining
GMP and EHS procedures for all routine and non-routine contractors.
All contractors must understand the procedure prior to beginning work.
- The facility recently upgraded the Material Safety Data Sheet database.
This new database includes a library, information on legislative changes
impacting the facility's operations, and risk assessment capabilities,
all of which will reduce the need and cost for outside consultants.
- A monthly safety patrol of the plant is performed by the EHS committee.
The purpose is to audit the EHS practices in all areas and assign concerned
parties to correct and improve any non-compliance finding.
Support to local emergency response organizations
- Each employee participates in annual fire extinguisher training with
the assistance of the Bangkok Fire Brigade. This "hands-on"
training provides an opportunity for each employee to practice effective
fire extinguisher procedures.
Environmental Peformance
- An additional raw water treatment water recycling facility was completed
in November 2002, allowing the facility to reuse the filter back wash
water for plant watering.
Major EHS impacts at the site, or actions taken to reduce such impacts
- An additional water softening system was completed in December 2002
to improve the incoming water quality and to meet future compliance.
The supply pipe of the existing reverse osmosis and continuous de-ionization
system was extended to the laboratory to ensure that there would be
no stagnant water in RO water system and ensure that the laboratory
would get the best quality water.
- A new environmental system controlling approximately 50 air conditioning
units across the site has been completed. The innovative system controls
both office and production areas which, in turn, creates energy savings.
The system is maintained by the MJT energy saving committee.
- The facility achieved TIS/OSHA 18001 and ISO 14001certification, a
voluntary international specification for occupational health, safety,
and environmental management systems.
