Virology Fellows Research Training Program


Introduction

The Bristol-Myers Squibb Virology Fellows Research Training Program is a key component of an ongoing and concerted effort by Bristol-Myers Squibb Virology to advance research and understanding in the areas of HIV/AIDS and chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. The Bristol-Myers Squibb Virology Fellows Research Training Program provides support for fellows to gain experience in epidemiological and clinical research as it relates to the care of individuals infected with HIV/AIDS and/or HBV.

Goals of the Program
  • Support studies that will further strengthen the science and knowledge of HIV/AIDS and HBV
  • Develop a foundation for future prospective and retrospective studies
  • Provide a forum to share research findings
  • Support the development of future clinical researchers
Eligibility Criteria
  • Be an active Fellow accepted to or in good standing in an ACGME-accredited Fellows training program in 2008-2009 academic year
  • Desire to enhance knowledge and skill development in the area of HIV/AIDS or HBV clinical research
  • Desire to pursue clinical research related to optimal sequencing of agents, efficacy, epidemiology, resistance, or toxicity in HIV/AIDS and/or HBV treatment
  • Must identify a faculty member to serve as the project Mentor at the applicant's institution
Enrollment and Funding
  • Up to 18 fellows will be selected for the 2008-2009 academic year
  • Grant awards up to $20,000 to support research-related expenses for a one-year research period
  • Total grant amount is inclusive of indirect costs and associated IRB fees and is not permitted for use towards travel to conferences or for durable equipment
  • Fellow must follow up with their respective Grants/Contracts office to ensure that authorized clinical trial agreement is executed in a timely fashion
  • Fellows will have responsibility of presenting their study results at annual Bristol-Myers Squibb Virology Fellows Research Symposium held at the end of the 2008-2009 academic year

  • Complete the online 2008-2009 Virology Fellows Research Training Program Application
  • Completed applications must be submitted online no later than
    5:00 PM EST on February 29, 2008
  • Hard copies of the following must be mailed to BMS Virology Fellows Research Training Program, Medical Affairs, P11-14, 777 Scudders Mill Road, Plainsboro, NJ 08536 and postmarked by
    February 29, 2008:
    • Letter of Recommendation from Mentor
    • Documentation from program directors that applicant is an active Fellow accepted to or in good standing in ACGME - accredited Fellows training program in the 2008-2009 academic year
