Disease Areas of Focus

Cancer

Cancer is the second most common cause of death in the United States – in 2006 about 565,000 Americans are expected to die from cancer. Moreover, about 1.4 million new cases are expected to be diagnosed. In addition to this, more than one million cases of basal and squamous cell skin cancer are expected to be diagnosed this year.1

Recognizing profound unmet medical needs among millions of cancer patients worldwide, Bristol-Myers Squibb has long devoted extraordinary resources to discovering and developing cancer drugs. More than four decades ago, it delivered its first anti-cancer drug. Since then, Bristol-Myers Squibb has become a world leader in cancer therapies. It makes several approved medicines and has several experimental compounds in development to address unmet need in many types of cancer.
